  1. READ ME for WSTBar 2.4 (6/5/1995)

  3. WSTBar is a MS Windows application that displays a toolbar (TOPMOST) that
  4. holds command buttons for INTERNET applications. The toolbar is setup to
  5. run the following applications:
  6.  
  7. Trumpet Winsock
  8. Web Browser
  9. E-Mail
  10. News
  11. FTP
  12. Gopher
  13. Telnet
  14. Finger
  15. Internet Phone
  16. IRC (Internet Relay Chat)
  17.  
  18. New Features in version 2.4
  19. ---------------------------
  20. Version 2.4 includes the following new features.
  21.  
  22. - Online registration
  23. - A MS Windows-based editor for editing WSTBAR.INI
  24.

  26. The application that WSTBar runs when a command button is clicked is
  27. user-defined. The file WSTBAR.INI hold references (disk, path and EXE name)
  28. for your INTERNET application preferences. Once WSTBar is installed, use the
  29. WSTBAR Setup program (installed in the WSTBar Program Group) to edit the 
  30. settings in WSTBAR.INI (located in the \WINDOWS directory).

  32. Installation
  33. ------------

  35. NOTE: This application requires VBRUN300.DLL
  36.  
  37. 1. Un-ZIP the contents of WSTBAR.ZIP into a temporary directory
  38. 2. Start Microsoft Windows (if not already started)
  39. 3. From the Program Manager, select the File menu and choose Run
  40. 4. Type <drive>:<path>SETUP.EXE and press ENTER. Where <drive> and <path>
  41.    is the disk drive and path where you have placed the un-zipped files.
  42.  
  43. The files required for WSTBar will be copied to a directory on your
  44. computer (C:\WSTBAR by default), and the setup program will create a 
  45. program group for WSTBar. At this point, you MUST use the WSTBar Setup
  46. program to edit WSTBAR.INI (located in the \WINDOWS) directory.

  48. Setting the toolbar location
  49. ----------------------------
  50. WSTBar allows you to set the location of the toolbar. This is accomplished
  51. through settings in WSTBAR.INI (BarLeft, BarTop). The position is specified
  52. in pixels. The current settings position the toolbar at the top left-hand
  53. corner of your screen.

  55. Selecting your applications
  56. ---------------------------
  57. You can select the applications that WSTBar will run when the buttons on the
  58. toolbar are clicked. Replace the path and filename of the INTERNET 
  59. applications with the path and filename of your INTERNET applications.

  61. Setting the number of toolbar buttons
  62. -------------------------------------
  63. You can customize the number of toolbar buttons in WSTBar. If you leave
  64. a line in the [WSTBar] without an application path and filename, the 
  65. corresponding toolbar button will be removed from WSTBar. Here is an
  66. example [WSTBar] section from WSTBAR.INI:

  83. Based on the above section, the toolbar for WSTBar would include toolbar
  84. buttons for WinSock, WWW, EMail, News, FTP, Gopher, and Finger. Since
  85. Telnet, IPhone, and IRC do not include path and filenames the toolbar
  86. buttons for these applications will be removed.

  88. Using LoadOnStart
  89. -----------------
  90. An option to load a specific application when WSTBar is started has been
  91. added in this release. To load a specific application when WSTBar is started,
  92. add the application to the LoadOnStart option in WSTBAR.INI. Allowable options
  93. for LoadOnStart are WinSock,WWW,EMail,News,FTP,Gopher,Telnet,Finger,IPhone, and
  94. IRC. This option is blank by default.

  96. Using you own help tips
  97. -----------------------
  98. You can customize the help tips that are displayed by WSTBar. To specify
  99. new help tips, use the WSTBar Setup program to edit the settings in WSTBAR.INI.
  100. Replace the existing help tips with the desired help tips. Below is an 
  101. example of the [WSTBarHelp] section from WSTBAR.INI

  115. Loading you own icons
  116. ---------------------
  117. You can customize the toolbar icons that are displayed by WSTBar. To 
  118. load new icons, use the WSTBar Setup program to edit the settings in 
  119. WSTBAR.INI. Add the full path and filename of the icon for the specific
  120. toolbar button. If the file doesn't exist, the default icon for the toolbar 
  121. button will be loaded. For the small toolbar, icons should can be a maximum 
  122. of 19 X 11 pixels. Enclosed is a file (TRUMP.ICO) that can serve as a 
  123. template for creating new icons for WSTBar. Below is an example of the

  138. Once you have edited the settings in WSTBAR.INI, you are ready to run WSTBar.
  139. Double click on the WSTBar icon and the software will be loaded.

  141. WSTBar can be unloaded by clicking the right mouse button on any of the toolbar
  142. buttons. Any INTERNET applications that you have running when WSTBar is unloaded
  143. are left running.

  146. Online registration
  147. -------------------
  148. You can use the registration button in the WSTBar setup program to enter your
  149. registration code in WSTBAR.INI. This code will be supplied to you when you 
  150. register your copy of WSTBar.
